Organic Lounging

Eating organic isn’t the only way to live healthy. It’s also important to keep your surroundings clean and toxic-free, and that’s why more and more people are choosing furniture that is non-toxic and chemical free.

Just like junk food, you can also have junk furniture. In a recent study, Duke University discovered that more than half the couches in United States households contain potentially toxic flame retardants that pose risks to humans as well as pets.

Flame retardants are linked to hormone disruption, cancer and neurological toxicity, and most sofas contain at least a pound. The chemicals have also been known to cause lower birth weight, lower IQ scores, shorter attention spans and less fine motor coordination in children during pregnancy.

Of the conventional products tested, 41% of couches contained foam with chlorinated Tris, a human carcinogen removed from baby pajamas in the 1970s. They also found that 85% of couches were treated with some form of untested or potentially toxic flame retardant.

So even while you’re eating healthy and staying fit, the couch you’re resting on can be a major setback.

In most cases, living healthy means spending more. Fortunately, when it comes to furniture, our case is quite the opposite. Our last blog showed that futon furniture can cost FOUR TIMES LESS, and even weigh FOUR TIMES LESS, than your average couch.

More importantly, our wooden futon frames are made of 100% kiln dried tulip poplar grown in the Southern Appalachian mountains.

The Savannah Lounger is just one of a variety of wood frames that are 100% natural, chemical free and hypo-allergenic. And if you’re looking for the safest, healthiest sleep, we also have bed frames made of the same wood.

Of course, choosing a wooden frame gives you the absolute freedom to choose you separate mattress, but you have to choose the right one.

Our widest selling Airlay mattress features natural cotton batting, and the cotton we offer contains a small amount of NON-toxic substance (boric acid) as a fire retardant, complying with California’s strict safety requirements.
